PATRIOT DAY 9/11

I’ll never forget what I was doing on September 11, 2001. I worked in the cafeteria at my children’s elementary school that year. I was helping set out the food for the students. The principal made an announcement over the PA system.  I can’t remember exactly what he said but I do remember him saying parents were coming to pick up their children and take them home, and the teachers should be prepared for such interruptions. I can’t remember whether the school was on lock-down or not. We still had to serve lunch regardless of the chaos. I didn’t get the whole story about the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, and the plane that went down in Somerset County, PA until I went home and turned on the TV.

Below is a picture I found on Facebook. I think using the lights to represent the Twin Towers is a fitting way to memorialize those who lost their lives on 9/11.  I can’t help feeling somewhat removed from the tragedy. I didn’t lose any family members or friends on that tragic day, but I know many others did. My heart goes out to all of them, and I pray God will strengthen them. I’ve never been to New York City, but if I went I’d like to visit Ground Zero and pay my respects.

I am proud to be an American. The tragedy our country experienced on 9/11/2001 is something we will never forget…and many will never be able to forgive those responsible. But one good thing to come from the tragedy is our solidarity. We stand together and share stories about what we were doing on that fateful day. We pray and sing patriotic songs. I’d like to share one by Sandi Patty that I found on YouTube. This is my favorite rendition of The Star Spangled Banner. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!
