The Freedom of Silence

I just watched The Freedom of Silence on Netflix. Here's the synopsis: "It's the year 2030, and the government has outlawed Christianity. Enter Zach Thompson, a brave man who teams up with a friend to hack into the government's computer system to reclaim religious freedom for Americans." And here's a review someone wrote about it: "As a piece of filmmaking, it's obvious that this is really bad, BUT, if one is up to the challenge of overlooking its flaws, the message is good. Given the current sorry state of our society, it's not that difficult to imagine such events coming to pass, especially if 'liberalism' continues to run amok."

I concur with this review. The movie has many flaws, but when you overlook them you can see and understand the message of what happens and will continue to happen if we as Christians don't stand up for what we believe in. One day it will be illegal to read the Bible, go to church, pray, or preach the Gospel. We will be imprisoned, tortured, and killed for our beliefs, but we can't back down. We must carry the Gospel to every nation. Jesus is the only way to heaven.  I thank God for my parents, who raised me in a Christian home and made sure I went to church. I've tried to instill the same values and faith in my own children. I thank God for my relationship with Him and the knowledge that He holds me in the palm of His hand.

When I watch movies like this I start to feel both fearful and emboldened. I don't want to endure what the main character, Zach, endured, and it frightens me to think of it ever happening. But at the same time, I know that even if it were to happen, this world is not my home. I know my spirit will go to be with God in heaven when I die. "I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I've committed unto Him against that day."  Life is a gift. Eternal life is freedom. Salvation is free for the asking. God the Father gave His one and only Son, Jesus, as a sacrifice for our sins and to give us eternal life. That’s the greatest gift we could ever receive, at Christmas or any time. Let’s keep these things in mind during our Christmas festivities. Jesus is the only reason for the season.
